West Valley City, is a western suburb of Salt Lake City and the rarely known that its the 2nd biggest city in the beautiful state of Utah. Prior to the Mormons (originally known as the European-American Latter-day Saints) who arrived here in the year 1847, the area was originally occupied and lived in by the local regional tribes of the Native American tribes, Ute and Shoshoni. WVC in the 1970s became a farming community that was mostly a fruit tree harvest. It was at that point in time that the city started to grow in leaps and bounds, due to this farming culture that was created. Of the 4 unincorporated towns at that time, the towns of Hunter, Chesterfield, Granger, and Redwood all merged together and officially incorporated in 1980 to form what we know today as West Valley City. In other interesting West Valley facts, the serial killer Ted Bundy was arrested in Granger, prior to incorporation, during a routine traffic stop. Another interesting fact about the region is that the Maverick Center, located in WVC was the official location of the 2002 Winter Olympics Ice hockey teams for America and others countries that came to participate that year.
